Richard Thompson was a fixture of the Mardi Gras Mask Market in New Orleans since its beginnings in the 1980s. The market was located in Dutch Alley for a number of years as well as next to the French Market. It featured handmade masks from mask makers around the country. Much of the work he offered at the mask market was his ready-to-wear, affordable designs. He also sold his work year-round in gallery shops of New Orleans, including Rumours and Razzle Dazzle, both located on the famed art corridor Royal Street. Thompson also sold his work at renowned leather fetish store Mr. S in San Francisco and costume shops of New York City. For decades, he also sold his art at renaissance faires around the country.
